Construction has officially commenced on the highly-anticipated Build to Rent development, Boyd Village, with a ground-breaking ceremony taking place earlier this month.
On the 7th February, PDG was joined by key partners and stakeholders onsite to celebrate the milestone, which included sod turning formalities and a smoking ceremony with a local Aboriginal elder, Perry Wandin who presented a personal Welcome to Country.
Boyd Village is a result of a collaborative agreement between PDG and the City of Melbourne, and will provide affordable housing and public amenities to the community.
Situated adjacent to the Boyd Community Hub and nestled within the new Boyd Park, which spans across two acres of parklands, the development builds upon the former use of the site as a school and its current role as a dynamic community centre in one of Melbourne’s highly-sought after inner suburbs.
Managing Director of PDG, Vince Giuliano said, ‘Boyd Village will provide Southbank with a diverse residential charm with its expansive park, green spaces, and array of leisure and co-working spaces, which will accompany the current communal facilities (such as the library, café and art studios) within the heritage-listed Boyd Community Hub. The development will create a one-of-a-kind offering unlike anything else in Southbank.’
PDG is pleased to be partnering with Investa on this landmark development to deliver 434 Build to Rent apartments, inclusive of 40 affordable rental dwellings earmarked for key workers, for Investa’s BTR platform Indi. Indi will retain the tower and podium, with the exception of part of the Ground Floor and Level 1 Council Facilities which will be owned and managed by the City of Melbourne.
In collaboration with renowned architect DKO, the design for the precinct will see ample green spaces, landscaped gardens and a vibrant streetscape. Key public spaces will be paramount to promote neighbourly connections among residents.
Lord Mayor Sally Capp said, ‘Southbank is one of our city’s shining jewels – a thriving residential hub and the epicentre of Melbourne’s spectacular cultural, dining and events offerings. We’re thrilled to partner with PDG to further enhance the offerings in the precinct, including new public space and council facilities.’
The development is expected to be completed in 2025, led by PDG Construction Manager Josh Griffiths, in collaboration with builder Hamilton Marino.
