No.1 Queens Bridge Revealed as Early Works Commence on Transformational Landmark
PDG has marked a major milestone in the evolution of one of Melbourne’s most significant riverfront sites, with early works now underway at the much‑anticipated No.1 Queens Bridge development. The commencement of on‑site activity arrives at a symbolic moment for the city, following Melbourne’s recent recognition as the World’s Best City for 2026, reinforcing the project’s alignment with a city celebrated globally for its culture and liveability.
Positioned on the Yarra River and anchored by the historic Queens Bridge Hotel, No.1 Queens Bridge will rise as a 71‑level mixed‑use tower, delivering a collection of luxury residences, alongside a premium hotel offering. Elevated hospitality, dining, wellness, and lifestyle experiences will complement panoramic views across the river, CBD, parklands, and Port Phillip Bay.
The historic Queens Bridge Hotel, originally built in the mid‑1800s, will be thoughtfully elevated as the entrance to the new precinct, forming the heart of a sophisticated hospitality offering featuring a rooftop bar, grand atrium entry, and international boutique luxury hotel woven into the podium.
Designed by internationally renowned COX, in collaboration with ODO and PDG, the tower’s sculptural façade draws from the fluidity of the Yarra River. Six vertical pleats cascade the full height of the 71 storeys, creating a dynamic three‑dimensional form that captures Melbourne’s shifting light and adds a distinctive new silhouette to the city skyline.
More than 5,500 sqm of resident amenity will create what PDG describes as an “urban village in the sky” – a multi‑level environment supporting wellness, connection, and multigenerational living.
PDG Founder and Managing Director Vince Giuliano said the commencement of early works represents a defining moment not only for the site, but for Melbourne’s next wave of landmark projects.
“This project marks the revival of one of Melbourne’s most prominent riverfront sites and the beginning of a new chapter for Southbank. For more than 15 years, this site has remained dormant, and the return of activity is a powerful signal of confidence in Melbourne’s future and in PDG’s ability to deliver a project of this scale and quality.”
“No.1 Queens Bridge has been designed to deliver something truly exceptional for Melbourne, an address that brings together heritage, architecture, hospitality and residential living in a way the city hasn’t experienced for many years.” Mr Giuliano said.
Located along the Yarra River promenade, directly opposite Crown and close to Melbourne’s globally renowned cultural precinct, No.1 Queens Bridge provides direct access to key cultural, dining, sports, and entertainment destinations.
PDG’s plans for No.1 Queens Bridge are currently before the Department of Transport and Planning, with sales due to launch in the coming months.
