PDG receives green light for landmark $1.5bn Southbank destination, The One

PDG has secured Victorian Government planning permit approval for The One, a landmark $1.5 billion mixed-use development set to transform one of Southbank’s most prominent riverfront sites. The One Melbourne Residence Planning Permit has played a pivotal role in bringing this project to life.

Southbank Riverfront Living

Located at 1 Queens Bridge Street, directly opposite Crown and moments from Melbourne’s Arts Precinct, The One will bring new energy to a long-dormant 5,059 sqm site through a striking tower featuring premium apartments, branded residences, a luxury hotel, boutique office space and new hospitality experiences.

Designed by COX in collaboration with ODO and PDG, the sculptural tower takes inspiration from the movement of the Yarra River, with six vertical pleats rising through the façade to create a distinctive new addition to Melbourne’s skyline.

The One Amenities

The development will also celebrate Melbourne’s heritage, restoring and reactivating the heritage-listed Queens Bridge Hotel as part of a new hospitality offering, including a rooftop venue designed to welcome residents, visitors and the broader community.

A standout feature of The One will be its more than 5,000 sqm of residential amenity, creating one of Australia’s largest consolidated resident lifestyle offerings and redefining apartment living in the heart of Melbourne.

Queensbridge Square

The planning permit approval also includes a major upgrade to Queensbridge Square, to be delivered by PDG in partnership with the City of Melbourne. The revitalised civic and pedestrian plaza will strengthen connections between Southbank, the Yarra River and Melbourne’s CBD.
PDG Founder and Managing Director Vince Giuliano said the approval marked a major milestone for both the project and the city.

“This is the most significant Planning Permit approval Melbourne has seen in recent years. For more than 15 years, this site has remained underutilised. This approval enables us to deliver a project that will contribute meaningfully to the revitalisation of Southbank, restore and reactivate an important heritage building, and create a new civic and hospitality destination for Melbourne.” PDG Founder and Managing Director Vince Giuliano.

With early interest already building from prospective owner-occupiers, The One, Landmark Melbourne Residence, is planned to launch to the public in early 2027.
